About CHWI
In 2015, the UN adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which provides “a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.” Among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDG 2 aims to "End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture." It is also the driving force behind our Centre for Health & Wellness Innovation (CHWI).
CHWI is dedicated to advancing food science, nutrition, and related fields leading to the development and commercialisation of high-quality products and services that will enhance health and wellness and become an integral part of people’s lifestyles.
CHWI focusses on life sciences, especially foods and nutrition, to support SDG 2 and the "Eat Right India" initiative. This initiative empowers citizens to make healthy food choices and encourages food businesses to reformulate products, provide better nutritional information, and invest in healthier options.
What is Health & Wellness?
Understanding health and wellness is key before exploring CHWI's impact in this field.
WHO defines 'Health' as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity," implying that health comprises individual state and behaviour while considering the environment around.
Wellness, as defined by the National Wellness Institute (NWI), is "an active process through which people become aware of and make choices towards a more successful existence." It is a conscious, evolving process aimed at achieving one's full potential and is multidimensional and holistic.
CHWI is dedicated to research and innovation that enhances health and wellness holistically. We aim to develop R&I leadership in the key areas covered under the CHWI. Our focus is on “responsible nutrition” and related life sciences and technology areas. We aim to lead by attracting renowned scientists and driving significant change.
How do we do this?
The CHWI has defined a clear and solid approach with these three divisions:
Food & Nutrition Discovery & Formulation Development Division
This division will be set up to screen and source new food actives, intermediates, and formulations, focussing on developing food and nutrition-based health and wellness programmes for community benefit.
High-end Technical Services Division
This state-of-the-art division will provide advanced analytical, validation, and safety testing services.
Business Development Division
This division will provide support in legal/regulatory matters, patents, intellectual property rights, clinical claims, project management, and Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS).
