Working guidelines

  • Investigator should submit the “Animal Requisition and Animal House Access Request Form” to the animal house in-charge at least THREE months before initiation of the study for the procurement of animals and to make appropriate arrangements in the animal house.
  • The quotation of animal cost and per diem charges will be issued by animal house in-charge and the Investigator need to pay well in advance to procure the animals and materials (Note: Only normally available species and strains would be arranged by Animal house in-charge. In case, any specific species or strain is required by the Investigator on special request, the investigator should ensure its possibility of housing with the current facility and then the Investigator need to provide the details of vendor and procurement procedure to Animal house in-charge).
  • Based on the master schedule of the Animal house, the In-charge will allocate the experimental room and dates of initiation of study. This will be strictly followed to avoid the overlapping/overburdening the facilities.
  • After the animals are arrived to Animal House, the Investigator/Co-researchers will be allowed to work in the Animal House facility and should attend the allotted animals in daily basis. They should confine their movement only to the allocated experimental room (entering into other experimental rooms is strictly prohibited).
  • Investigator/ co-researchers should enter the animal house premises only after entering the log book with signature. During exit they have to enter the log book.
  • Investigator/ co-researchers should enter the animal house premises after equipped with PPE or hand gloves, face mask, shoe cover and apron. (Note: All these should be brought by the researcher(s). None of these will be provided by Animal house facility).
  • No Food, water, personal belongings like camera, music gadgets, or any other equipments are allowed inside the housing area. Each Investigator may be provided a locker upon request which will be charged based on the days of use.
  • In case, the experimental protocol mandates photography it will be permitted with due approval from the Animal house In-charge upon receiving an application.
  • The animal house doesn’t provide any instrument to conduct any specific experiments at Animal house. It is the sole responsibility of Investigator to transfer the animals to another laboratory within the GITAM campus in an air-conditioned vehicle with minimal stress and should return them in the same day with due care. (Note: Investigator has to inform to Animal house in-charge regarding such movement well in advance.).
  • All the SOPs of Animal house should be strictly followed by the Investigator/co-researchers during their study.
  • Animal house will not be responsible for any spontaneous mortality or morbidity of animals.
  • Investigators will be allowed to store their drugs (intended for daily dosing) in the refrigerator of animal house. They have to enter the drugs detail in the log book of refrigerator.
  • Animal house don ’t provide any storage facility for biological samples.
  • Animal house won’t provide any consumables. All necessary consumables have to arrange by the investigator.
  • Animal House is not responsible for any spontaneous mortality and morbidity in animals.
  • Researchers are advised to get vaccinated (TT) before initiating animal study.
  • All the bio-wastes, sharp objects etc should be disposed by the Investigator as per the CPCSEA guideline.
