About the
Department...
B.E. (Production Engineering) course was started in the year 1981. To cater to the needs of the various industries, an advanced curriculum was designed covering all the aspects of Mechanical, Production and Industrial Engineering and was named as B.E (Mechanical Production and Industrial Engineering). Since 2007- 08 academic year, GITAM University offering B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing & Management).
In 2004, Industrial Production Engineering spun-off from Mechanical Engineering Department as its own course and remained independent and was conferred autonomy in the same year. The Department excelled among the various Departments of GITAM when it was ranked the Best Private Engineering College in Andhra Pradesh by APSCHE in the year 2004. In addition to the Under Graduate course, the Department also offers M.Tech courses with specialization in Industrial Engineering & Management, and Industrial Safety Engineering & Management(evening). These courses are suitably structured to provide an ideal environment for education as well as interdisciplinary research to meet the complex technological challenges.
Research publications of the staff and outstanding achievements of the students in extracurricular and co-curricular activities speak for the credibility of the Department. The Department has got well qualified staff with Six Senior Level faculty members having Ph.D degrees and other members pursuing their Ph.D’s. Research activities of our students are co-advised by the faculty drawn from diverse disciplines. After their graduation, our students have assumed leadership roles in industry and academia.
The broad areas of focus and our commitment to multidisciplinary research include Intelligent Manufacturing, Artificial Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic Applications, Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Automated Setup Generation in Computer Aided Process Planning, Solar Energy, Supply Chain Management and Multi-objective Optimization for Engineering Design.
The Department has well equipped state-of-the-art Laboratories namely Workshop, Machine shop, Foundry shop, Industrial Engineering and Computer Aided Manufacturing. Thermal Engineering, Heat Transfer and Computer Aided Design Laboratories are jointly shared with the Mechanical Engineering Department. |
