About the
Department...
The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department was started in 1980 as one of the three conventional Engineering branches, with the aim of imparting high quality technical education in the area of Electrical Engineering. It was started with the vision to contribute to the growth of Electrical profession with moral and professional standards which will be a source of technical manpower for the nation.
The department's major specialties are in the areas of Power Systems, Power Quality, Order reduction of large scale systems, Energy Management, Control Systems and Power Electronics, the faculty has published Technical Papers in these areas.
The department has started with four year under graduate Program in Electrical & Electronics Engineering in 1980. The curriculum includes subjects like Electric Circuit Theory, Electrical Machines, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Analog Electronic Circuits, Linear Integrated Circuits & Applications, Environmental Studies, Power Electronics, Digital Circuit Design and Microprocessors, Data structures, Power Systems, Control systems, Signal and Systems, Switchgear and Protection, Electrical Drives and Control, Digital Signal Processing and Applications, Digital Control Systems, Power Systems Operation and Control etc. along with blend of choice of electives like Operations research, Non-conventional Energy Resources, Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems, VLSI, High-Voltage Engineering and HVDC Transmission etc. The department emphasizes automation through computers, experimental investigation and exposure to industrial problems with Industrial Tours, Industrial Training and Project Works.
The department has started a two year Post graduate Program in Power Systems & Automation under Andhra University Stream and GITAM University stream in 2008 respectively to enable students in exploring their potential in advanced applications of power systems. The curriculum includes subjects like Analysis of Dynamic Systems, Optimization Techniques, Advanced Power System Protection, EHVAC Transmission System, Power System Operation & control, Power System Control & Stability, HVDC Transmission, Artificial Neural Networks etc.
The department is spread over an area of 2080 sq. meters of instructional area built in RCC which includes well ventilated class rooms, laboratories, work shops and other Facilities. The department consists of (1) 1st year Electrical Workshop Laboratory (2) Networks & Electrical Machines Laboratory (3) Networks & Measurements Laboratory (4) Digital Electronics and Microprocessors laboratory, (5) Electrical machines laboratory, (6)Power Electronics laboratory, (7) Control Systems laboratory, (8) Power Systems Laboratory, (9) Simulation Laboratory etc. along with departmental Library. All the laboratories are with modern equipment and are well equipped to impart training to the students according to modern curriculum approved by the competent authority of GITAM University.
Students develop their professional skills through academic study, discussion with experts, utilization of advanced software packages like MATLAB, PSCAD, ETAP etc., guest lectures, seminars and paper presentations. Departmental Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (DAEEE) is a student body actively involved in organizing technical-quiz programs, conferences, symposiums etc.
Our students are recruited by software companies and core companies. Some of the companies are TCS, WIPRO, Accenture, Infosys, Satyam, L&T, Jindal Electrical, Konaseema Gas Power, Dalmia Cements, JK Paper etc. The average percentage of placements is 55% and average salary and highest salary offered are Rs.2.4 lakhs and 7.2 lakhs per annum respectively.
